We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our People & Culture team in a part-time maternity leave contract, providing expert payroll services that support our people and organisational goals.

About the Role

Reporting to the Manager Payroll, you will play a key role in delivering accurate, compliant and customer-focused payroll services across the organisation. Working collaboratively with Payroll and People & Culture teams, you will support fortnightly payroll processing, provide expert advice on awards and legislative requirements, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

This role is ideal for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys solving complex payroll matters, mentoring colleagues, and driving process improvements in a large and diverse organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the end-to-end delivery of fortnightly and ad hoc payroll processing.
  • Ensure payroll transactions are processed accurately, on time and in accordance with relevant legislation, awards and organisational policies.
  • Respond to complex payroll enquiries and provide expert advice to employees and leaders.
  • Maintain payroll data integrity and ensure employee records are accurate and up to date.
  • Assist with WorkCover payments, Long Service Leave calculations, redundancy calculations and manual payments.
  • Coach and support payroll team members to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Contribute to payroll system improvements, testing, documentation and process enhancements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation to deliver exceptional customer service and meet payroll deadlines.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Extensive payroll experience within a medium to large organisation.
  • Minimum 8 years' experience in payroll, including at least 4 years in a senior payroll position.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, taxation, awards and compliance requirements.
  • Experience interpreting Enterprise Agreements and employment conditions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using payroll systems.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume environment.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement.
