What it’s like to work in health at UC
A career in health at UC is about seeing the whole person, not just whatever is happening for them that day.
In community settings, you’ll build strong therapeutic relationships, offer support that fits people’s daily lives, and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team that values collaboration and evidence-based care.
Depending on your role, a typical day might look like:
- Supporting someone to manage their mental health and build practical coping strategies.
- Providing therapeutic counselling to help people navigate stress, grief, trauma or change.
- Offering harm-reduction advice and structured support for people experiencing alcohol or other drug dependence.
- Providing primary care to a young person at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
- Helping someone improve mobility, strength or daily function through allied health interventions.
- Working with older people to maintain independence and wellbeing in their own homes.
Most importantly, you’ll be a steady, trusted presence – someone who listens without judgement and supports people to take steps toward better health, at their own pace.
You’ll be supported to do your best work with access to clinical supervision, ongoing training, wellbeing resources and career pathways across UC. Whether you’re early in your career or an experienced practitioner, you’ll find a role where your work is valued and supported.
