Kids Engagement Worker
- Adelaide (Head Office), SA, Australia, 5000
- Community and Client Services
- Permanent Part-Time
Do you love the idea of being the safe, consistent adult in a child’s world?
Are you the type of person who can turn a car ride into a sing-along, homework into a confidence boost, and dinner time into connection time?
We’re looking for a Kids Engagement Worker to join our Foster Care team at Uniting Communities — someone who understands that real impact happens in everyday moments. The role will mainly include after-hours and weekend work. Working on Saturday in non-negotiable.
What This Role Is Really About
This isn’t just “activities with kids.”
It’s:
- Being the trusted adult who shows up consistently
- Helping children build life skills in safe, practical ways
- Supporting foster families so placements don’t just survive — they thrive
- Creating spaces where kids feel heard, valued and strong
You’ll work directly with children and young people in out-of-home care, supporting them both in the home and out in the community.
What You’ll Be Doing
No two days look the same, but you might be:
- Driving kids to school, therapy or sport
- Helping with homework (and celebrating the wins!)
- Preparing dinner together and supporting bedtime routines
- Planning 1:1 sessions or group activities
- Supporting children to build confidence and trust in safe adults
- Representing the child’s voice in reviews and planning conversations
- Writing case notes and working collaboratively with carers and practitioners
This is hands-on, relationship-based work where reliability and follow-through matter.
Who This Role Suits
You might thrive here if you are:
- Calm and steady, even when things feel big
- Playful and creative, but also structured and organised
- Comfortable working in family homes and community settings
- Confident engaging with carers, therapists and professionals
- Passionate about child-focused, trauma-informed practice
This role requires emotional maturity, consistency and the ability to manage competing priorities while keeping the child at the centre of everything you do.
What You’ll Need
- Certificate IV in Child, Youth & Family Intervention, Diploma in Community Services (or equivalent approved qualification)
- Experience working with children and young people, particularly those “at risk”
- Full, unrestricted Australian Driver’s Licence
- Working With Children Check
- National Police Check
- First Aid and CPR Certificate
- Child Safe Environment Certificate
Experience with children who have experienced trauma, neglect or complex needs will be highly regarded.
